Sunday Afterthoughts…
We survived. Despite all the scares with this whole website mess the services went off without a hitch. A big thanks to our ushers for “standing guard” in the sanctuary and to our local police for driving through to make sure everything was fine.
Both services went really well today. Was able to meet a few new families in each service and I felt like the sermon went really well. I have to admit these sermons aren’t completely original to me. I got the outlines for them from a series another pastor did a long time ago and thought they were to good to not preach and put my own little twist on each one. Its been working because the Lord has really challenged people in this series.
Today I spoke on liberating grace and how we need to quit trying to live lives of perfectionism. Perfectionism can kill our friendships and our relationship with Christ. Main scripture came out of Galatians 3. Multiple people came up especially after 2nd service with tears in their eyes and you knew God really spoke to them which was just awesome to see. Always love seeing the Holy Spirit impacting people’s lives.
We tried to have our first welcome luncheon for new families in the church. It didn’t exactly go as planned. First 3 of the families had to back out which was fine. Then our pizza didn’t show up. The place we ordered from forgot to make our order today. They had it down for next Sunday. But hey that happens. We still had a couple families and we had drinks. So we enjoyed some drinks and I walked them through all we will be trying to accomplish at Sand Lake in the coming months and years. It probably sounded overwhelming but it’s definitely exciting. We now have a process that we want people to walk through that will help move them from visitor to a mature believer in Christ. Be on the lookout for more details of all of that.
With the website stuff it actually gives us an opportunity to evaluate our site and see if we want to restart from scratch. Also, this has awakened us to make sure that we have an action plan for our church during times of crisis. We always tend to believe that churches are the safest place but someday that may not be true so it would be wise to have an action plan that would help protect everyone if something bad were to happen like a fire or heaven forbid a shooting.
Well that’s about it for me. Going to spend the rest of evening hanging with the family and relaxing in front of the TV. Hope your week goes great. Thanks again for the prayers and encouragement the last few days. God bless.
